Studios Betting Big On Margot Robbie Sports Wagering Tale ‘Dangerous Odds’

The hot package on the auction block has Margot Robbie poised to play Marisa Lankester, a young beautiful woman who became an insider atop the largest illegal sports betting organization in the U.S., and eventually a victim of a dangerous world of corruption. Lankester’s story, which almost sounds like a version of Robbie’s breakout rags to riches to rags saga The Wolf Of Wall Street, will be scripted by World Trade Center andStraight Outta Compton scribe Andrea Berloff, based on Lankester’s memoir Dangerous Odds. I’m told that several studios have chips on the table for this sports betting tale. Reps for Robbie and Berloff–Management 360 and CAA– and the producing shingle Film 360 are running an auction that began yesterday for Robbie to play Lankester, a thrill-seeking beauty who became an insider of the sports betting empire run by Ron “The Cigar” Sacco. She fell in love with his business partner, and moved the business with him from L.A. to Vegas and then the Dominican Republic, where gambling is legal. While she became a top model as well as a gambling mogul there, her existence devolved into a nightmare of incarceration and rape, before she finally escaped. She now lives in Switzerland. This one should play out quickly. Hot on the trail is Warner Bros–she’ll star in Suicide Squad for them–though I’m told that others are vying as well. I will keep you posted.
